HELPFUL TIPS WHEN USING YOUR APPLIANCES
Washing Machines and Clothes Dryers
Using too much washing powder can cause a build up of soap scum in the outer bowl of your machine – clothes come out dirty or there are marks on the clothes at the end of the wash. We suggest you use half the amount of detergent recommended on the packaging. Also it is advisable to use warm water in your wash. If you are using cold water, try to do at least one hot wash each week. This will help to prevent soap scum building up in the outer bowl.
Try not to cram too many clothes into your washer or dryer. Overloading any washer or dryer can cause damage to motors, belts and other moving parts.
Check the washing before putting it in your machine for any foreign objects – coins, nails, bobby pins etc can get into the drain pump and block the pump. Check filters regularly. Remove the lint filter in your clothes dryer and clean as a dirty filter can stop the dryer from heating efficiently.
If your dishes are not coming out clean, a dirty filter is often the cause. If the filter is blocked, water cannot make it to the spray arms to clean the dishes in the top rack. Take out the lower rack, remove and clean the filter. Rinse your dishes before placing them in the dishwasher.
Clean refrigerator door gaskets regularly. Food and mould can gather in the grooves of the gaskets. Sticky substances around the door closing area can cause the gaskets to stick and tear.
Clean airconditioner filters regularly to remove any dust or mould. If you have a split system airconditioner, ensure the water is coming out of the overflow pipe on the outdoor unit. Often insects build nests in these pipes and this will stop the water flowing freely.
